Private, Public Sector Bodies Contributing a Lot Towards CSR: Khurram Dastagir |
Islamabad - A seventh international Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) 2015 summit and CSR awards ceremony was held here on Friday.
Addressing the participants of the summit, organized by National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH), Minister for Commerce Engineer Khurram Dastagir said that besides private sector, several public sector organizations have also realized the importance of CSR and now contributing a lot for well-being of country's deserving people.
He said that both local and international enterprises are paying great attentions on CSR in the country and have developed their CSR departments for effectively implementation of CSR policy by providing shelters, medical aids, food and clothing to the displaced and needy people.
He said that it is not only the responsibility of the government but private sector should also come forward and play due role in economic progress of the country.
He said that the country is facing various challenges including energy crises and law and order situation, adding, the present government is working to overcome these problems.
He said "We should have firm believe on democracy and also on that democracy is the only way for moving the country on right direction." He urged corporate sector to play due role to contribute minimizing the suffering of people.
He said that it is a high time that private companies should adopt CSR policy and start CSR activities. He added the federal government is trying its level best to provide relief to the needy citizen of the country.
He expressed the hope that the summit will provide an opportunity to review strategies while developing CSR initiatives and build experts CSR response team aligning with the federal, provincial or local government networks for timely reach and needed facilitation.
He appreciated the participating organizations and individuals for their contributive roles being played at the time of natural disasters like flood, earthquakes etc.
He appreciated the efforts of National Forum for Environment and Health for organizing such events for the betterment of trade professionals as well as for the industry.
He added these kinds of event are helpful to create more awareness about CSR in Pakistan.
Former Minister of State for Environment and central leader Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Malik Amin Aslam said that PTI is the only political party that has included the issue of environment in its manifesto.
He said that besides corporate sector, political parties of the country should also be held responsible regarding CSR which is a basic component for making improvements in the society.
He said that a new project named green growth initiative is being launched in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in February this year with focus on protection of environment, forest and protected areas like national parks.
He added an amount of Rs 15 billion has been allocated for the project while Rs one billion has already used for the project in completion of related schemes in all districts of the KPK.
Managing Director and CEO of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) Muhammad Rafi said that OGDCL is the largest exploration and production company in the country, which is listed in all three stock exchanges as well as on the London Stock Exchange.
He said that the company is responsible to plan, promote organize and implement programmes for the exploration and development of oil and gas resources.
He said that the passion and commitment of dedicated workforce of OGDCL has established its credibility in every sphere of its activities and has enabled to earn the goodwill of stakeholders.
He said that the company allocates sufficient amount with regard to corporate social responsibility. He added an estimated Rs one billion is being spent annually for completion of various development projects including health, environment and sanitation.
Chairman NFEH Qaiser Waheed, President NFEH M. Naeem Qureshi, MNA Asad Umer, Australian High Commissioner Peter Hayward and Others also spoke on the occasion.
