Plantation Drive Held to Jointly Mark Independence Day of Pakistan and Indonesia

Karachi: A ceremony to jointly mark Independence Day of Pakistan and Indonesia was held here at Consulate General of Indonesia in Karachi the other day.

Using the occasion, tree and plant saplings were also planted on the occasion under ongoing plantation drive as part of Sarsbz-o-Pursukoon (green and peaceful) Karachi initiative of National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH).

Those who took part in plantation drive included Consul General of Indonesia in Karachi Hadi Santoso, his wife, NFEH President Muhammad Naeem Qureshi, Secretary of the forum Ruqyia Naeem, Advisor Samir Mir Shaikh, Anwar Aziz Jakartawala, and others. They also prayed at the ceremony for peace and progress of the city.

Speaking on the occasion, Indonesian Consul General Mr. Santoso said that plantation drive should be promoted in the city in all the sectors, areas, and walks of life for sake of controlling environmental pollution. He said that all concerned quarters should actively take part in the ongoing drive to beautify Karachi.

The Indonesian envoy praised the continuous efforts of National Forum for conducting public awareness campaign for upholding cause of environmental protection.

NFEH chief Naeem Qureshi on the occasion greeted Indonesian diplomat on 70th Independence Day of his country while also briefed him about details of ongoing plantation campaign being conducted by the National Forum.

It is worth mentioning here that the NFEH in connection with office of Commissioner Karachi and other concerned agencies had planned the plantation drive under its Sarsbz-o-Pursukoon Karachi initiative. Last time under the same initiative of the forum, some 300,000 plant and tree saplings were planted in different parts of Karachi from September 2014 to April 2015. This time too, plantation drive would see some 200,000 plant and tree saplings being sown during first phase of campaign that could last for around three months. Different commercial, corporate, industrial establishments, educational institutions, and municipal agencies would take part in the plantation initiative.
