Children and Youth are Important For Highlighting Environmental Issues |
Karachi: Speakers at a programme have stressed the need that government institutions, senior authorities, and civil society should extend cooperation for ensuring improved environment in the city similar to the active role being played by youth and children for the noble cause.
These views were expressed by participants of a festival-like activity organized by National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH) here the other day at a shopping mall of Clifton area in connection with World Environment Day. The programme was organized in collaboration with United Nations’ Environment Programme and attended by over 300 school going children and their parents.
Speaking on the occasion, NFEH President Muhammad Naeem Qureshi said that children and youth should be given due attention while working for the causes of environment, education, health and other pressing social issues. He said focusing on youth and children was important so that in future an educated and enabled nation could play its due role for progress of the country.
The NFEH chief said that his forum had organized week-long activities in connection with World Environment Day this year and by doing so it had contributed its part in practical steps being taken in the society for improvement of environment. He said the office of Commissioner Karachi and Sindh government’s Forest Department had also actively contributed for this cause by promoting plantation drive in the city.
Also on the occasion, competitions on the subject of environmental uplift were also among participating children through holding drawing, poster-making, general knowledge quiz, songs, and essay writing contests for them. Prizes were also distributed among successful children of these contests. The activity at the shopping mall continued for around four hours and participated by children of age group four to ten years along with their parents.
The eminent guests and other participants of the activity appreciated the efforts of NFEH for the cause of environment and health and also resolved that they would also play their due part for beautification, upgrading, and improvement of the city.
Prominent participants of the activity included renowned actor and singer Khalid Anum, Hassan Soomro, Dr Muzna Ebrahim, designer Yousuf Bashir Qureshi, Romana Hussain, prominent social figures Dr Kaiser Waheed, Samir Mir Sheikh, Afia Salam, Jamshed Bukhari, Mahrukh Jabeen, Dr Sabiha Essa, Ruqiya Naeem, singer Kamran Saggu, Metropolitan Commissioner of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Samiuddin Siddiqui, and Administrator of District Municipal Corporation South Mir Farooq Lango.
